Origin of the story.
I had already entered the “10 Day Game Jam 7” which had the theme Australia, but wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do. Being an Aussie I should have been able to jump on it, but I also didn’t feel like doing too much.
Anyway, the “Low Effort Jam 12” came up, so I thought I would distract myself with that. I have always wanted to use Inkle or RenPy to do a visual novel, but never had the patience to sit down and nut out a story.
At the moment it is the middle of winter here in Sydney and we are in the midst of a pretty strong COVID lockdown: only 1 member from a household allowed to do shopping; no browsing in the supermarket; no travel etc etc. So not much going on.
I began mucking around with Inkle and started with the idea of making Vegemite on toast. If you don’t know what Vegemite is, it’s a thick black spread. Really salty. A bit like Marmite. So that’s when I figured I could combine both Jams in the one game. “You little beauty!”
I was going to add some photos and maybe record my broad Aussie accent reading the paragraphs, but…meh…too much effort. “She’ll be right!” I thought to myself.
Creative writing isn’t something I’ve done for a very, very long time! I’m sure it’s full of grammatical and style errors. Maybe another time I’ll adapt it to RenPy and add in those feature.
Hope you bozos out there enjoy it. ‘Ave a great weekend, and don’t forget the aeroguard, ya mugs!
